evaluation of mandy's work

The work we did in our Creative Media class was to design and create a CD Cover for a band of our choice.

The designs I created are now finished and I am happy with them. The design process helped me to edit them and make them better in both shape and color. Certain web sites helped me to create the designs. The website I used which gave me some great ideas and helped me pick the colours and design ideas was Dreamland Designs (heavy metal and rock designs page).

The first thing we did was to look at artefacts and what their uses were. This helped us to understand what to expect and how the CD should be designed.

The work I did on artefacts was about presenting how we use them and how they are made. Then I gathered some examples of old and new artefacts onto an A3 piece of paper to show what artefacts are.

Then the next task I had to do was to find what sort of CD covers and music we liked. I chose the a heavy metal and rock orientated design cover by choosing the cd covers of Avenge Seven Fold, City Of Evil, Dragon Force Inhuman Rampage, Disturbed Indestructable. Finally, for influences from my heritage I chose an irish drinking songs CD.

Then I had to say why I had chosen them which was pretty easy. I chose them because of the color and the designs, Which make them jump off the cover. This is because when heavy metal fans walk down the isles of record shops they are looking for a good CD to buy.

I liked the designs and the fact that they stood out. They caught my eye with the dark backgrounds and bright colored fore-ground images.

The task to find the target audience who would buy the CD and explain why they would buy it.
The final part of the unit was to design and create the CD covers.I did this by choosing Wild Rampage and City Of Sins. Out of my six designs.
The final designs have been made and completed.
Hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

EVALUATION of unit 4 - creating a record. 2/11/09

Q1. Describe Batman's character: batman as a character of the dc comics range is a very dark and mysterious vigilante who seeks to avenge his family who were killed when he was young in front of his eyes and to make sure his city of Gotham is safe from the crazed mischief of the insane and the evil from criminal gangs to the truly insane his nemesis and the man who killed his parents the Joker.
Q2. what sounds did you choose and what musical ideas did you use in your first song: I used a very slow yet dark entrance theme with very loud and low sound my first try was with the mixed and church choir but when they failed I turned to the violins with the tubular bells over the top.
Q3. describe the choices you made to develop your music as the credits unfold: For the credits I use twelve tracks which are in order of appearance The violins, tubular bells, orchestral kit, percussion kit, timpani, clarinet, mellow organ, glockenspiel, timpani tremolo, mixed choir, falling stars sync.
Q4. how did you create your batman theme: Small intervals of a semitone (crematic) centered around the note D, the motif repeats a note higher on the third verse, the end motif finishes on the note E.
Q5. what happens at the end of the song as gothom city scene begins: At the end of my theme I have a very loud and sharp choir singing for about 1 second and the tech-no noise of the falling stars tech-no chimes, this brings in the end of the entrance and hails in the start of the Gothom City scene.
Q6. knowing know what you have learnt in logic 8 and in class what would you change in the song if you could and why: If I could have changed things about how I created the song I would have been more experimental with the beginning. And the entrance of the batman symbol I would have liked to see how it would have been if I had made the entrance faster or sharper rather than the slow mysterious start I have used.
I would have changed the instruments I used to create my melody to try and make it stand out more and if that failed then I would have tried to make the beat or background music quieter so the melody can be heard better.
I should have added more loops instead of copy and pasting the notes to repeat them.

new music fail

the new suggestions made by mike didn't help to improve the song in fact they made it worse so i have recorded the recent failure and reverted back to my original piece and edited the length of the timpani drums and made the second timpani set deeper in tone so as they don't cover the clarinet solo and my motif,
Some additional changes have been made like the longer lasting tubular bells which instead of covering my ending finish just the last two instrument which form a single sound ending and a climax for both the batman symbol and Tim Burtons name.

cd design reasons.

the reasons behind my design ideas are all to do with the genre of the music which i choose as heavy metal and rock, the colors i used are very dark backgrounds with a red or orange flamed for-ground the images i used represent evil anger destruction and fantasy.
for example on my city of evil cd cover there is a city silhouette encased in flames with a pitch black background and two red demonic eyes floating menacingly above the city.
the large very bold headings are typical of heavy metal cd covers as the bands will want there names to be noticed.
the typography of the cd covers is based on the large images being the front of the selling point of the cd and the main thing that can attract the eye of the buyer with the large image taking up the whole of the front cover with the designs and can use the color to its advantage of standing out on a shelf.
the design ideas were made from combining ideas from the cd covers of dragonforce, disturbed, and avenge sevenfold i used them as my design inspiration.
my cd covers are different from others in the class but as i used some design for inspiration im sure there are other c.d's out there that have very similar aspects to mine but none are the same as my cd designs are unique.
the bands names is going to be printed onto the c.d cover (back) .
the promotional aspects of the cd will be used by having multiple band names and the songs of theirs on the cd.
